Whitley and I avoid the rain on our friend's porch. She was all ready for the show in her star-spangled, patchwork dress!
Nature had her own idea for a fireworks display last night, as all the Independance Day celebrations in the Triangle were rained out due to a huge storm. After enjoying a small cookout with a couple from our neighborhood, we loaded up and headed to the community center for beach music and fireworks. A friend of ours lives right down the road from it, and offered her street for a parking spot. As soon as we pulled up, the dark clouds rolled in, followed by bright bursts of lightening. We hung out with her cook-out crew on the porch, hoping it would all blow over, but the rain fell strong and steady. Whitley happily played with a blue glowstick while the adults chatted. The town is supposed to host the fireworks display tonight instead, but I don't know if we'll attend. It's the birthday boy's decision; Tom is 35 today! :)
