Birthday Boys

Tom and his children. (It only took about ten tries to get one with everyone looking at the camera.)

Whitley reads the birthday card she selected to her daddy.

Yesterday, we celebrated Tom's birthday! We started with doughnuts from our favorite bakery, and Tom opened his cards and presents. In the afternoon, we dropped Whitley off with Aunt Stacy, and watched Hancock with Tom's brother Dave, and his wife, Terri. Then the four of us joined back up with the Davis family, as well as my Aunt Mary and cousin Melanie, for dinner at Tom's favorite, Tyler's.

Happy Birthday, PaPa! I miss you soooo much!!

My Dear Little Whitley,
This is my PaPa, and your Great-Grandfather, Oscar, and today is his birthday. We would be celebrating his 84th year, but he passed away on September 29, just weeks before you were born. He led a full life as a WWII Navy Vet, Kiwanis President, church Deacon, car dealership owner, husband, and father of your Aunt Mary, Aunt Betty and CC. He spoke often of all his girls (With 3 daughters and 5 granddaughters, he had quite a few!) with such pride and love. I know you would have made a happy addition to the list, and I so regret that he never got to see your sweet face. However, I take comfort in remembering the way he laughed and laughed the first time he saw my big pregnant belly; it made him so excited to know that you were on the way! As you get older, I will tell you more about your kind and gentle great-granddaddy, as well as his lovely wife, Grace, whom you're named after. CC has already made a beautiful book that details a lot about their life together; I can't wait to share it with you! But for now, I will just hold you tight, and send up a prayer for all those who loved him and miss him today.
All My Love,
Mommy
