Tom's 40th Birthday

Tom had a pretty good birthday week, if I do say so myself.  :)  July 5th was our last full day at the beach, and so Tom left early to go set up the tent for the final time.  Not before I was able to catch him and put butter on his nose, though!  I decorated a silly party cup for him, too, and he drank from it at the beach that day.  In the early afternoon we headed back to CC and Day Day's to get ready for dinner.  We all went out to Dick's Last Resort, arriving around 5:00.  The restaurant had us laughing from the get-go with all the funny hats and the rudeness of the staff.  They throw straws and napkins at you and say stuff like, "If you want a polite, family restaurant, go to Cracker Barrel."  We couldn't wait to see what our group was going to get, and we were not disappointed.  Tom, CC, and Whitley were the first to receive hats and we were dying laughing.  After supper, we went back to CC and Day Day's for cake and ice cream and presents.  The Davis family gave Tom a giant bucket filled with "40 Things Tom Likes."  It was such an awesome gift and truly represented Tom- everything from a book and movie passes, to peanut butter crackers, ice cream toppings, and lottery tickets.  It was fun to watch him go through it all!
On Wednesday, July 10, we celebrated Tom's birthday with friends by hosting a Pub Golf Tournament in Durham.  The idea is to dress in golf attire, visit different bars (each one is "hole" on the course), and finish drinks in the # of sips assigned to each hole ("par").  Everyone met us at James Joyce and the drink there was a shot, which is a par 1.  Beers were a par 5, well drinks a 3, and so forth.  We had a nice crowd of people attend, and the game ended up being a lot of fun!  I gave everyone score cards and little golf pencils to keep track of their "sips", and there were three winners at the end of the night.  Tom and I really liked the "Pub Crawl" element, moving on from each bar every 30-40 minutes.  It make the game exciting, and allowed for more mingling among our group.  Fun night for a fun guy!  Love you, honey!!  (And a big thanks to Stacy and my parents for letting Whitley spend the night!)
Tom enjoys his birthday morning with a drink and Duncan Doughnuts.
Getting ready to go out to dinner.  Whitley liked posing with Day Day's hat.
The ladies.
Family shot at Dick's.  (Tom has on his 40th Birthday button!)
CC's hat was hilarious- "The last time I got lucky, I yelled 'BINGO'!"
They might not be the two sweetest kids in the whole entire world, but they sure look the part in this picture.  :)
David is pimpin'.  (And really enjoying his Sprite.)
Stacy, George and Judy with their hats.
Day Day and Drewby.
The birthday boy was first.
CC took a group picture with her iPad.  (And was promptly mocked by our waiter.)
Silly photo!
Whitley is still making her "silly" face in our group shot.
Posing with the birthday banner.
I made the cake- chocolate with homemade butter cream frosting.
Tom and his gift bucket of favorites!
Dave and Terri gave Tom "Sex Panther" cologne for his birthday present.  "60% of the time, it works every time."  (It even says so on the box.)
Ready for some Pub Golf!
Terri was really enthusiastic about this party and added some super cute accessories.  She made the leader board and updated it at each bar, and those "Quiet" signs.  They warned that there was "Drinking in progress."  Ha!!
Some of the folks who were left at the end of the night. :)
(There were more guys there, but they were the ones taking the pictures.)
I'm adding this picture in here, too.  On Saturday, July 13, we celebrated our good friend Ted's birthday by riding this "Trolley Pub" around downtown Raleigh.  Katie organized it for him, and it was a blast!  We pedaled on the trolley and then stopped in a few bars downtown.  We had a lot of laughs. :)
