A Day With David

Arriving at Duke Gardens
"Baby" David is going to be four on August 10 (Can you believe it?!), and we are going to miss his party due to our travel plans. :(  Major Sad Face.  Thus, I really wanted to celebrate with him in some other way.  Fortunately, Stacy and George were kind enough to let us have David for the day, and it was grand!  Tom had already scheduled a plasma donation for this morning in Durham, so Whitley and I dropped him off, and then picked up David at Stacy's work.  He was so cute and excited; I got the best hug!  We had a few hours before Tom would be finished, so we spent what was an exceptionally beautiful morning at Duke Gardens.  (The temperature around here has been so mild lately!)  The kids had fun exploring different paths, peering into ponds and fountains, and playing in the sprinklers.  After leaving the gardens, we spent some time at a McDonald's playground, ordering some Happy Meals to go before picking up Tom.  At home Whitley and David had a busy afternoon making cupcakes, playing downstairs, playing upstairs, swimming in the pool, making Shrinky Dinks, playing games... I couldn't believe all that we did!  And we got to sing to David and watch him open his birthday presents.  :)  The two cousins were so good, and while I won't speak for them, I can attest to having a fantastic day.  Thanks for meeting me with him, Swazzie!  I really appreciate it!

We played a little wiffle ball inside the park.
Checking out the Koi in the pond.
They were very good to pose for me throughout the visit.  :)
I thought this flowers were very unique and pretty.  Butterflies like them, too!

Lots of sprinklers were on today which added to the fun.
Ooooh, so wet!
There are chickens at Duke Gardens!  I never knew that until a kind volunteer told me today.  He thought the kids would like them.  They did.  :)
Snack break at the Discovery Garden.
Decorating cupcakes.

We ended up making Vanilla icing, too.  Why not?
Chillaxin' in the pool.
David shows off his freestyle!
See?  They really do swim in this pool.  So funny!
Present time!

He liked his Legos and his game.
Shrinky-Dinks!  I totally bought these out of nostalgia, and they were worth it.
First, you color the "rough side."  David explained it to Stacy when she picked him up.  He was right!

You bake them in the oven just for a few minutes and watch them curl up and shrink.  It was so cool!

We gave David a "Neverland Pirate's Challenge" game that requires players to complete different tasks.  It was cute!  The kids did great!
