Drew Turns Four

Whitley smiles with Tom at one of the air hockey tables during Drew's party at JumpZone!

Drew turned four last Sunday, and I got the privilege of celebrating his birthday with him! I brought him his StarWars present- which he was very excited about- and took him to see an early showing of Disney's Tangled. We shared a small popcorn and Raisinettes, and he was the perfect movie date. (He even snuggled with me a little during the lovey-dovey part!) Then, Tuesday evening was his JumpZone party. Whitley talked about it for weeks, and couldn't wait to have "cake and balloons"- her definition of a party- with Drewby. When I picked her up from school that day, her teacher said she had told everyone all about it! Thus, Tom and I were so disappointed when we arrived at the JumpZone, and Whitley instantly burst into tears at the sight of the inflatables! One of the first ones was a castle with a big dragon, another was a pirate ship being dragged undersea by a giant squid, a Tyrannosaurus Rex guarded the entrance to a dinosaur-themed one, and there were several others. Well, most of the kids thought these were very exciting, but Whitley was petrified! She screamed "NO!" whenever anyone she loved ventured near the dragon, and determinedly kept a safe distance from them herself. Fortunately, she perked up playing air hockey, and was all smiles for Drew, though not even he could convince her to try out the toys. Oh, well. I guess we've played too many games of "run from the dragon" at home- she thought it had finally come for her! Whitley did enjoy her pizza and cupcake, and sang and clapped for Drew with gusto. She sure does idolize our birthday boy!

Drew was ready to go to the movies in his birthday t-shirt and sticker!
Nothing but smiles for me! Love my nephews!!
The 12th was a yucky day, but my date was all the more handsome in his fireman rain coat.
Tom patiently explains how the inflatables are fake toys, and how much fun Whitley would have, if she would just try one out. Whitley answers, with equal calmness and clarity, "But Daddy, I just don't waaaant to..."

David was all over the baby play area. He threw himself on these cushions repeatedly. It was so funny!
Whitley hung out there some herself. :)

Whitley's favorite part of the Spiderman cupcakes was the icing- better get it all off the ring!
Bundled up and headed home! Thanks for the invite, Drew! It was a nice party!
