More Cousin Fun at the Playground and Santa's Village

The last Sunday and Monday of our Vermont trip were super fun for Whitley. The Wilson family hosted a cook out for everyone Sunday afternoon, and then a few of us adults gathered all the kids and headed in to town for a little adventure. First, we visited the playground at the local elementary school, and it was extremely awesome. I was very impressed with its look and layout. Then, we drove to Chappy's for an ice cream where Avery treated Whitley to a vanilla "creamy," the New England term for "soft serve". (Thanks, Wood family! We owe you one!) Behind the ice cream stand was a wide shallow creek, and the kids played there until the sun sunk low, all of them wading, gathering, and throwing rocks. It was a lovely evening and an excellent precursor to our big trip to Santa's Village! We've always had fun there in the past, but this year was extra special because of the huge crowd that went! All in all, we had 28 people ranging in age from less than a year to seventy-something. We ended up spending about 7 hours there, with Whitley riding 13 rides. It was a great day! Whitley tries out just one of many swings.
Whitley had fun throwing the ball around with a few of the older kids.

Group photo! We posed all the cute cousins in order by age on this jungle gym. They were pretty excited, hollering and laughing. These pictures are cute and worthy of clicking so you can see them in a larger size.

Liam, Whitley, Avery, and Jack make up the youngest of the bunch. (Baby Cooper opted to stay back with Grandma instead of joining us on the outing.)

Yummy ice cream!

Throwing rocks.

Always a favorite. Whitley rode the Rudolph merry-go-round three times!

She and Avery rode a few of the same rides, which was fun.

Tom and Whitley on the bumper cars. She loved riding in the red car, but wasn't so sure about the "bumping" part. Afterwards, she ran up to me and said, "Mommy, we HIT you! I'm so sorry, Mommy." She was so sincere and distressed!

I couldn't believe she rode this, The Himalaya. I certainly wouldn't. But as we walked up, Whitley said, "Whoa, that's soooo coooool!" and was excited to give it a try. She smiled and laughed all through it!

Checking out Santa's flyers.

This ride provided lots of laughs. Look at Tom screaming!

Here's a picture of folks watching Tom and the others on the ride. It was fun to see their surprise at the drop. Of course, it wasn't so fun when Whitley rode it and wanted to get off... She told me four times she wanted to ride it, so I let her give it a shot. Oh, well. At least they always stop and check to see if someone wants off, and we were able to do so early on. She's still my brave and adventurous little girl!

Here's one just for tykes.

She put out the fire with Scott. He was so sweet, holding her hand when they exited.

Whitley was seriously interested in the "Elphabet" game. She had a punch card and found every elf in the Elphabet so she could get the punch, and turn in the completed card for a prize. Of course, I think the real fun was spying the elves all over the park. She was pretty good at it, and did an excellent job of inserting her card and getting the punch.

Out front after a long and exciting day.

Whitley LOVED talking to Rudolph. I think she would have stood there all day. Someone watches from a window and speaks in a microphone to answer kids' questions as Rudolph. Well, the two of them decided that Rudolph would come by Whitley's house at Christmas, eat cookies and carrots for a snack, and that he has a cute little nose. Whitley was so fascinated by him and kept stroking the glass. She called good-bye to him until he was out of sight and we were well in to the parking lot. Sweet. :)
