Whitley in her birthday crown that CC bought.Whitley had a big first birthday weekend with lots of friends and family. Saturday afternoon, folks came over for snacks, a Carolina BBQ dinner, and of course, cake and ice cream! Whitley was all smiles, and no one could get over how happily she donned her birthday crown the entire time. When it came time to blow out the candle, she was a bit wary of the many singing voices, but loved her cake. I thought she was so cute and prissy in that she smeared the icing on her hands and face, but avoided getting any on her new dress. She was so excited about her party that she stayed up long after everyone left, despite not having an afternoon nap. On Sunday, Whitley's actual birthday, she awoke to everyone waiting on her to open presents. It was like Santa had visited our house! Whitley played with all her new toys, and wore another pretty little dress. We celebrated the day with a visit to the Davis's, the purchase of a new forward-facing car seat, a sad goodbye to CC and Day Day, and a family singing of "Happy Birthday" once again with another little piece of cake. Whitley only slept about 25 minutes on her big day, but you never would have known it. She was a doll from morning 'til night, prompting us all to agree that Whitley LOVED her birthday. I truly could write pages about the bittersweet joy the end of my baby's first year brought me, but I think pictures tell the story better. :)
