Stacy and I had such a great time at the MN Renaissance fair with Mom and Dad, that we just had to take the kids to one, too. The NC Renaissance fair was a bit of a drive, but I think it was worth it! The kids were so excited to don their Medieval attire and go visit some real princesses and knights. They chatted the whole walk to the entrance about all they'd do and see.

A beautiful duchess met us at the gate, and insisted that the noble knight and lovely princess come to a knighting ceremony at 1:00 to be recognized by the King and Queen.

There were a few rides for the kids, and all of them were human-propelled. Whitley liked them all, but was especially excited to pick out a butterfly to sit in.

At 1:00 we arrived at the tent for the knighting ceremony, just as we'd been instructed. Drew was disappointed that all the kids were invited, even though they weren't all in costume. (And honestly, Stacy and I were, too. What a line!) In this picture, Drew and Whitley applaud the royalty after reciting their oath to be honest and true nobles.

Whitley went first out of our crew. She had to give her name, step upon the the stage, and then kneel before the King, who knighted her. Each child received a wooden medallion in recognition, and the Queen shouted, "All hail Dame Whitley! Huzzah!" Afterwards, when I asked Whitley was her favorite part of the day was, she answered, "The princesses. And the Queen said my name!"

Look at
Drewby, in perfect stance, with his sword on the stage. So authentic- he's a natural!

And then sweet Baby David, who we weren't even sure was going to do it, walked right up there by himself and showed how it's done! The King used a rose with the little ones. :)

Whew! Getting knighted works up an appetite! Both families HAD to try a turkey leg.

This was a cute ride. Whitley and Drew pulled on the rope to flap the wings above. Later Whitley said it was like a bat!

Family photo on our way out.

The Davis fam. Notice how
Stac and I rocked the pirate hats!
