Labor Day Weekend

This past weekend, Cristie and Stacy went to visit their parents in Minnesota. Therefore, Whitley and I had "Daddy/Daughter Weekend!" On Saturday morning, our weekend began with a visit to the dump (Sorry, no photos of that). Later, we met Uncle Dave and Aunt Terri at the Old Fashioned Farmer's Day in Siler City, NC. We saw cows, pigs, donkeys, and Whitley even got to ride a Shetland pony named Buster. We all willingly sampled "steam cream," which is ice cream made with machines powered by steam (I'm not sure if that sounds tasty, but it was good). After that, Whitley and I headed to Burlington, NC to ride the rides in the city park. We rode the carousel and cars twice each, as well as the train. The two of us then went to La Fiesta in Mebane for a late lunch. Guess which one of us fell asleep on the couch when we got home? On Sunday, we got up and ready and headed out to the Duke Gardens. We saw some beautiful flowers and a new fountain there. Once again, we visited Mommy and Daddy's proposal bench where we snapped a photo. Later, we walked around Duke's campus to the Chapel. Though she seemed more fascinated with the squirrels, Whitley did point to the buildings and said, "Look Daddy, a castle!" After the Gardens we went to a favorite eatery in Durham called "Elmo's." Whitley was incredibly well-behaved and patient while we waited 25 minutes for a table. Did I mention that I should have known better, as Sunday Brunch is their busiest time of the week? We both devoured our meals and headed back home to relax with a movie for the afternoon. It was a wonderful weekend, even if we did miss Mommy!

More calves!

Oh my God! He's eating Terri's hand!

Daddy got to walk around in circles with the pony. (Notice the bit of sweat starting to form on my shirt.) Whitley and Buster

Whitley chose this fun Jeep.

Whitley's favorite carousel animal- an ostrich.

OK, now it's me, Cristie. I wanted to share a few pictures of what we Whitleys were up to, as well. Here we are at the Renaissance fair, just having devoured a delicious, albeit greasy, turkey leg.

The scenery at the fair was darling! Stacy and I really want to take the kids to one in NC.

Mom and Dad pose in front of the dungeon display. Mommy did not like the inside, with its medieval torture devices, one bit!

Here we are at the Carrie Underwood concert! We were so cold, but Carrie was wonderful- so cute and talented. We enjoyed the show very much!

Sunday evening we attended another outdoor fest at a fancy country club on Lake Minnetonka. There was a band, a buffet, and lots of activities. We mostly just people-watched and enjoyed the beautiful setting.

Thanks for a great trip, CC and Day Day! And thanks for being such a sweet Daddy and "guest blogger", Tom!
