May Days

May has been so busy!  We've had a lot of fun, but I must admit, I feel quite tired right now as I type.  Thank goodness summer vacation is around the corner.  Here are some photos of our May activities.  :)
Early in the month we attended an evening Durham Bull's game.  It was slightly chilly and overcast, but that ended up being perfect weather for our outfield seats.  Whitley was really good!  She liked the music and cheering, but primarily, was fascinated by the roaming mascot, Woolly Bull.  She spent the entire first hour of the game scanning the stands, and I'll be derned if she didn't spot him- every time- before I did.  Even with her enthusiastic pointing, I had trouble finding him.
Sharing some peanuts with Daddy- just one of our many snacks!
(Here's a cute story from the game:  As we were walking to the stadium, I heard someone call, "Whitley!" and then a little figure raced toward us, and nearly knocked Whitley over with a giant bear hug.  It took me- and she!- a stunned minute to figure out who the attacker was, but it turned out to be a boy from Whitley's class.  He was genuinely excited to see us; he kept leaping up and down!  Now, weeks later, he still greets me at school with, "I saw you at the Durham Bull's!")
We celebrated my 35th birthday with a Sunday afternoon cook-out.  (It was actually on my friend Amy's birthday, so I was happy to share my giant Cosco cake with her.  Yum!  Thanks, Cindi!)
My girlie and I at the party.
This May was also Whitley's first experience taking swimming lessons!  We signed her up at a nearby gym, and she attended every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:15-6:45.  She really enjoyed it from the first dip.  Mostly, they worked on kicking, blowing bubbles, and trying to go under.  The latter was Whitley's least favorite, but she was giving it a shot consistently by the end of the month.
Big smiles!
One pleasant surprise about the experience was that a boy from her old daycare class was in the group, too!  She hadn't seen him since December, and he is one of the few kids she's mentioned by name since the switch.  Whitley was thrilled to see him that first night, and saved him a seat right beside her every lesson after!
May also brought our second annual slumber party with Nolan and Katie Kellett.  Tom went to the beach with Ted and a few other fellas, and so Whitley, Rocky and I spent most of the weekend in Raleigh.  Saturday morning, we tried out the newly-renovated Pullen Park.  It was a beautiful day, and the kids had a great time.  The playgrounds and rides are so nice!  No wonder it was full of families of all sizes!
Trying out the boat ride with Nolan.
The park had a beautifully restored carousel.
Whitley and Nolan were pretending to operate a ride.  She kept demanding I come through and give up a ticket.
I don't know when Whitley turned in to a climber, but she made me a nervous wreck as she proved her new skills!  I took this photo straight up. She was directly above me, to the point that I could just barely touch her toes with my fingertips.  The park had some great climbing structures, and a spongy bottom, but I was still anxious as Whitley tried them all out!
One weeknight, we spontaneously met up with Dave and a few of Tom's cousins for a great visit and dinner at Tyler's.  Once again, it was a gorgeous evening, and Whitley had the best time running around the grassy courtyard.  She was so funny, too, striking poses and wanting me to take her picture.  I love the hands on the hips!
Not sure what this move is.  :)
Liz and Michael were sweet to her, of course, chasing around and pretending to toss her in the water.  She laughed and begged for more!  Fortunately, we were able to pause her long enough for a group photo.
Can't wait to see what's in store for June!
